Cyrogenic treatment for a Tranny?
Cyrogenic treatment for a Tranny?
I'm going to have to rebuild my tranny soon and wanted some more strength. The last time I buit a racy tranny the damn case cracked a month later on the street. Has anyone ever had the internal gears and the case dipped? Would it even be worth it?
Thanks
Kyle

I have talked to two hardcore SCCA guys (all FWD, though) who have their transaxles cryo-treated on their VW GTIs. They both claim that their trannies last at least twice as long as before. Though, I would take this with a grain of salt.

I'm in Maryland and have a small cryo business. It MAY strengthen the case, but it is definately worth doing the gears in a racing tranny. Cryo your gears and brake rotors and they will outlast everyone else's on the track. Cryo is more for wear resistance than strength. I charge $6 pound + shipping.

I have lots of parts cryoed on my FD, to include the tranny synchros.
Flamethrower, call up Gotham and talk to them about this. Back when I was at the shop we would get customer's parts cryoed and also had a source that did great tranny rebuilds. I had my tranny built by these guys and 8k miles and lots of horsepower later the tranny feels better than new
