CWC dual oil coolers- good, bad, pics, install?

I'm looking to replace my single oil cooler on a touring with these while I have my engine out. CWC said they're getting to make a batch.

Is it easier to do it with the engine out or it doesn't matter?

Anyone bought a set and running them?

Any difference in oil temp?

The oil cooler itself is very nice, however watch out for the stainless steel lines. A lot of times people screw up on that part and then it doesn't fit very well. Be careful when cutting the lines when you install it.

You mean the lines aren't precut for you?

I suppose you can't just remove old line, cut steel to size, because of the different size of the coolers???

I got nothing good to say about the quality of work from Duane C. at CWR.
His CF work is sloppy and his delivery time is ridicoulous.
as far as his intercolloer and oil cooler I can't say. I assume the quality is similar to his intake box.

I have the kit. I have had no problems with it. The SS hoses are precut and the ends are preinstalled. I believe this is the only thing besides the ducting that he does. The coolers are Mocal as well as the Thermostat. He did install two fitting backwards but that is an easy fix with two cresent wrenches. The oil temperatures are now very stable. The ducting is another story. If you are planning on a plug and play duct you are dreaming. But with a Dremel and a little cutting it will fit like a dream. I personally like the kit. By the way I would use thread sealer on the connections. Without they tend to leak.

I have seen the CWR coolers & Ducts on Max Cooper's Car and found the Molding of the ducts to be nearly flawless - also Max had no problem fitting them w/ a stock 93-95 front end. of course Max has had his for a couple years so the current ducts may be different.

My CWC oil cooler ducts fit great. The system itself was fairly tough to install(I took it to a shop that specializes in RX7). The only thing with the lines and please anyone who has this installed let me know if you had same problem, the one line that goes underneath the radiator(either return or feed line) has 2x rubbed a hole in my aluminum radiator. There is no slack. So, I had to wedge a hunk of foam in there to seperate the line and radiator(and check it periodically). The line is coarse on the outside and with slight movement, rubs into an aluminum radiator like a knife through warm butter. If the line was slightly longer(and maybe Duane has remedied this, I bought mine long ago) then this rub would be avoided.

Max Cooper had his oil coolers installed before mine, I wonder if he had this problem?

Do you think the monster oil cooler from rotary extremem is better than the CWR one?? It looks like the monster oil cooler is to big for the stock bumber, but im not sure. Does anyone have one, and how do they like it?

Here are some pictures with 99 ducting. Note I did need to cut the ducting a little, it was not plug and play.

Mnatecu,

Are the openings in your front end the same size as the stock 99 one?

I have the CWR dual coolers and I must say that they were well worth the money. The kit is very well made and the results have been excellent. With temperatures in the mid to high nineties here in Texas I am still seeing oil temps below 175, in the 160's on the highway. If you plan on getting a different front end such as the C-west or 99 spec I would advise you to buy the 25 row or 34 row from Rotary Extreme. I have a friend with the 99 front end with the CWR kit that is getting identical temps as me and his coolers do not have the ducts. That would give some evidence to the fact that the ducts aren't completely neccessary and the Rotary Extreme kits could possible give better results due to the larger sizes.

Those openings are stock sized 99. That is the CWR kit installed. The only difference is mine is fiberglass and the 99 is Urethane. It is possible the OEM 99 front will fit perfectly the ducting but I had to make several cuts to get mine to fit like they do.

By the way they have 19 rows each.

Does anyone have an oil temperature guage and can compare this with the stock R1 dual oil coolers?

I am seriously considering an upgrade for my 94pep after getting the single turbo, so I would like to know the difference in performance between the CWC and the stock R1 since they are similar in price.
