Question CWC cold air intake fitment

Just installed the CWC cold air intake. All in all things went pretty well.

One major question. Anybody running this with an air pump? My primary turbo inlet hose barely clears the air pump pulley with this intake installed (in facted it's already "clearanced a bit"). I just put a tie wrap on the turbo inlet line to pull it back but I know that's highly temporary (and cheeze).

The air pump inlet hose does not fit well at all. I was thinking of trying to remove the connection on the air pump and put it back on rotated 180 degrees.

Any suggestions. Yeah I know pull the air pump

Also, all the hoses were too big for the new inlet. I replace it all with 3/4" radiator hose. Anybody else?

autoparts shop

well... the fitment problem... hehe...

that reminds me how much i had struggled with the same problem.

you can go to any autopart shop and buy the hose with a kind of shape you want. at least thats what i did. oh... theyre about 4-8 bux.

anyway, do you hear any whistle noise when turbo spools? i used to hear that nice whistle with dp, and intake but a couple of days ago i found and corrected a small intake leak then no more whistle sound...

too bad... i really miss the whistle sound...

Cool Yup all kinds o noise

Yeah, it makes all kinds of strange noise.

So you also had interferance with the primary turbo pipe (hose) and the Air pump belt?

Anybody else?

Thanks in advance.

i had the same problem. i actually found a way of twisting the hose just right and clamping it so it doesnt rub on the belt pulley. it really takes a lot of effort and twister style moves while holding the pipes in place and tightening the clamps. looks pretty dumb if anybody is watching while you are putting the intake back on...

but now i do have a hole worn into the primary turbo hose because my mechanic wasnt aware of the poor fit, and he put it back in after helping me diagnose an oil leak. now i am running with a hole in the hose temporarily, until i install some custom cut hard pipes.

it might help if you trim the ends of the intake hoses about half an inch. that is one of the many things i was considering doing but never really got around to. of course that would make them not restorable to stock. it probably doesnt matter for our cars though, the third gen intake hoses are usually so dry they start to crack on the ends in need of replacement anyway.

Good suggestion

Rx7speed811,

Thanks for a good suggestion.

shortening the hose should solve the root cause. It seems the CWC intake is about 1/2" too far back. Maybe I could file on it enogh to move it up but an easier thought came to mind.

I was looking at it tonight and figured a piece of sheetmetal that mounts to the Air pump bolts and pushes against the primary turbo inlet pipe should to the trick. It's not as root cause solving as your idea but....that all I have until this weekend. I tried the twister thing but ran out of daylight.
