Cutting vents larger on the Mazda speed type hoods?
Wondering if anyone had tried this. I was thinking about increasing the vents opening onto the flat part of the hood from the base of each one of the current vents. Not to make them wider but to make them longer towards the winshield by 1 or 2 inches. Can anyone see any ill effect of doing this besides getting more water under the hood when washing? I would use the mesh to cover the larger hole.

Shouldn't hurt anything, just make sure to do a good job so it doesn't look like crap. My faspac hood is almost identical to the mazdaspeed except my vents are bigger.....maybe twice as big. Water doesn't effect anything with my vents, and I also left them open with no mesh. I had a pic of the vent I posted somewhere, maybe i can find it and give you a link.

I know your hoods bigger and I like the hood if it is sanded and painted. I think the mazda speed design with the raised lip would create a vacuum just past the lip and pull extra air out of the vents. When I put in my Larger SMIC the longer vents will help cleat the top of the IC because of the IC's thickness. The fastpac hood openings are in front of many SMIC's not after.
I always wondered if the flared lip on the mazdaspeed made and effect on vacume. Plus it makes the hood look really good, and if you could get the vents enlarged to serve better with your intercooler, that would be an ideal setup.
