Sure can. That would be a pretty cool looking idea.

I have a set of the CF ones and they look really good and have held up great. I imagine powder coat would do well there.

I also tried wrapping with vinyl once, turned out OK but my vinyl skills weren't on point. But, that is another option.

As they are aluminum you can also go the anodized route.

 

 

Anodizing is a bit more specialized where most every town has a shop that does powder coating. Also I think powder coating is more durable. The scuff plates stock have a clear anodized finish and you see how well that holds up .

how did you guys mount the plates? did you drill or rivet into the body of the car?

 

The quality of the anodized finish really depends on the quality, type and finish of the aluminum. For some reason I don't think the kick plates would be a good candidate, maybe I'm wrong...

 

The factory scuff plate kit has you drill out 2 holes in the body to insert 2 rubber well nuts into. Then you have a Phillips head screw with a plastic washer that screws into the well nut.

Well nuts are rubber plugs with a metal insert - when you tighten the screw the rubber swells and holds it in place. Works very well.

The scuff plates have to be removable to be able to remove the kick panel in the floor boards.

Stock the FD only had a little plastic strip. The scuff plates were a dealer-installed accessory but quite popular as it is pretty cool looking.
