guy's, i'm just about to create a custom intake to replace the airbox.

I went to the auto shop today, measured up some tubes and will set off about my business hopefully tomorrw.

I have a Question for you however. I have purchased small filters to block up the air pump and the other pipe next to the UIM, however i'm not sure what to do with the other 2 pipes, the pipes with the bleed valves.

In other setup, i have seen the bleed valve pipes (1 per turbo) put back into the intake pipes. Is there any other way to go about this? Can i put a filter on those or will it upset the tuning/make it backfire?

those are you BOV, just vent them to air and have fun

 

skunks is right, no filter needed if the valves are working properly, they just vent..... no intake

 

yeah, i realise i can put them out the the atmosphere, however im concerned this may cause rough idle and back fireing.

I did the same type of thing on my old mx6 turbo, and it backfired when i took my foot off the gas.

i'll give it a shot tho. thanks =)

 

never had a rough idle or a backfire from venting on an FD. . . its all cool. i think everyone has done this now, so its a-okay!!!

the reason for the rough idle was that the air vented by the BOV was already measured by the MAF, and the computer already sent the appropriate amount of fuel. However, since you vented the BOV to the atmo instead of back into the intake, you get a rich condition. Apparently, this isn't a problem with the FD

the air in the fd isnt measured the same way so the loss of air through the bypass valves is never enrichened for.....this allows for atmospheric venting without problems....

 

this is the right reason and why it doesn't do it with FD? Because there is no mass air flow.

 

the FD measures pressure at the throttle body. just past the blades. so if you have a leak past that you might have problems. thats why.

well, that didnt turn out as planned.

i could not get enough cold air meaning performance was lost.

i tried a few things, even using the standard belly of the airbox to try and section off areas..

oh well, back to the drawing board.
