this is my current setup, its a border racing bar and plate IC. the radiator is a custom griffin 3 pass prototype based on their oem drop in replacement. am i asking for trouble doing HPDEs in this thing?





the only ducting is has is the aluminum top panel supplied with the IC kit and i am running the factory lower panel as well. for the amount of money and effort i've got in this setup i could have easily fabricated some kind of Vmount or just left my PFS ic in there and plumbed the single turbo to it if its going to suck. this is not an FMIC by the strict definition of the word, but it seems to encompass all the perceived downsides. the AC condensor is hovering about 1/2" behind the IC and in front of the radiator using the included brackets.

Vmount sucks...... Worse intercooler setup ever. WHy would anyone ever want such a thing?

Serious....VMOUNTS are ugly, serve no purpose and just cost thousands upon thousands of dollars....I HATE them...

Your FMIC setup looks better than the GReddy FMIC I have because your IC is right in front of the radiator. There's less of a chance that air will escape between a gap between the radiator and IC.

I tried sealing off the top of the radiator with a custom made panel like the one herblenny has here (https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...+cooling+panel) , but that did not help. I also have the stock under carriage for FWIW. I never tried sealing off the sides of the radiator.

Almost sounds like a jealous kid that couldn't afford a kit moaning about the unfairness.... eheh

I say they are very nice design... and they should serve the prupose that they claim to do.

Not bashing Chuck from RE, but most of his work was 'based' off someone else's. However, he always made improvements where he saw they could be made. Most of which he did document (as with the issue he saw with the original Scoot hood that he fixed for his product). The RX7 Store V-Mount kit as far as I know was designed independently. At the end of they day, they all will look similar.

Chuck's design is not exactly a copy. I don't think anyone other than those who own RE Amemiya VMIC actually know how it mounts. I think Chuck has his own way of mounting and I personally don't like it, but it works. Chuck's design however has one of the best angles (regular vmic), but like I said mounting I feel is not efficient as say the HKS, Revo Tune or Knightsports VMICs. RX7stores design was to make a cheap yet effective VMIC that ALMOST all FD owners can buy since the average VMIC will cost you over 2K. The RE Amemiya is like 3,7xx shipped from Japan. I'm not willing to spend that, are you guys? Not worth it in my opinion. If I were to spend that much i'd purchase the Revotune which comes with intakes for the twins and allows you to keep the battery in the engine bay (RE amemiya doesn't, also why Chuck's design was better). All in all it's personal preference. VMIC has made a world of difference for me (came from OLD version Pettit Cool Charge II).

there is more than one way to skin a cat, but i think at the end of the day, most cats with no skin end up looking pretty similar.

Ok... so i've been trying to get a V-mount intercooler too.... But it costs WAY too much!!!!... So i was thinking. I can get a universal intercooler from Spearco or Drift Motion and then get a piping kit and fit it on. Is that a good plan? will it be just as good as a HKS VMIC??

And what about those ebay intercoolers? Are those any good? Do they actually provide cooling? or are they complete total crap?

I'm selling my Rotary extreme Monster V-mount right now. It was actually Chucks original (prototype) V-mount, in which he used a larger (and more expensive, hence the switch) core. Worked AWESOME!!! Got consistently lower temps than my buddy with a greddy 3 row, and water temp never got over 90, and thats in stop and go traffic, with the fans set to come on low. I paid just over 3k plus shipping, its yours for 2100 shipped, and i'll even include my fans with lenghtend wires.

Why don't people just fab there own V-mount it's not hard at all! A bracket here a rad spout there and some 70$ flex hoses and done!

i picked up a v-mount ic from ebay for 200 bucks with some pipings. Intercooler fit great, no removal of battery nor air conditioner. had to make some custom pipings no biggie. car made 290 whp with some bolt ons.

My vmount actually was released before RE Amemiya did. I got the concept from Knight Sports when I visited the Tokyo Auto Salon back in 2002. My vmount was done from scratch. It wasn't a copy of anything on the market. I just want to make things clear.

BTW, I sold my website and all the connection to a friend of mine. He will be offering vmounts and all the other custom products that I used to offer. He should be making an announcement on opening back up the business in a month or two. He will be taking over this forum name soon.
