curiousity between gas tanks

Iirc, our usdm 93-95 gas tanks, have a problem where below 1/4 tank, a hard right shifts the fuel over and "can" give us a lean condition then pop.

does anyone know if they fixed this problem in the 96-98, or 99-02 gas tanks? maybe a worthwile mod with better baffle's and better tank efficiency?

just a curious thought.

Thanks!

Los

The 95+s have an improved baffle system and are a little better about the fuel starvation. Unfortunately it's not that great either.

Hyperion is making a cover for the fuel pickup cup that substantially improves fuel pickup. If you put one of those in, it won't matter what kind of tank you have.

He ran a group buy. If you want one from the first set you'll have to find a buyer who's putting theirs up for sale.

Or you can make your own. While he's taken a lot of time to perfect the design, I'm sure that 'winging it' on your own would at least work a lot better than stock.

It is actually 96+ cars that have the improved design IIRC.

The "improved design" is just a sheet metal cover over the plastic fuel cup in the tank.

I didn't want to deal with it so I bought a new tank from Mazdaspeed a few years ago.

I auto-x the car extensively and it definitely made a difference.

Yes, I too just bought a new tank (which has the updated 96+ baffles) and it does help.

Really?

Back when my tank baffles broke last year I researched it and I didn't find anything about a 96+ tank. Oh well, I've got the hyperion cover coming.
