I am looking at installing an aftermarket cruise control. Most likely the Audiovox CCS-100 sold at Pepboys and also JC Whitney. I have found the most info on installs on other vehicles using that unit. I am doing research before buying the unit and find out it won't work. All the write-ups I have found were older vehicles running a distributor ignition. But it will work on distributor-less ignitions, have read people having it on 00 Nissan Froniter and 92 Grand Am. Back to my reason for this. What would I connect to for the tach signal(the write-ups on the distributor ignitions they got the signal from the distributor) Could I just splice of the tach in the dash? Also would I need the vaccum can they recomend on 4cyl or less vehicles? Rest of the wiring I have already got figured out.

Why ..... just buy the pieces for the stock system. No cutting/no splicing. It takes under two hours to do if you can turn a wrench. One box plugs in in kick panel .. the cruise actuator has a spot to plug into from the factory and take like 5 minutes tops to install. The most time consuming part is the the dash switch which also plugs in. Add the steering wheel switch and you are done. I got all my parts for $130 last year ... cruise actuator, cruise electrical box, dash control, steeering wheel button, and steering wheel backplate.

Do you have a write up on this with part numbers and directons? That would be pretty good for 130.00

 

I have been looking but either not all the parts are included or asking more than I think it is worth. Plus I know that I am not buying something that doesn't work.

Well I had pictures till my computer picked up a virus. Soon I'll get my backup disk from my friend so I'll have them. I'm sure I can dig up some part numbers if really needed. I know there are several people selling their cruise motors right now. It is cruise control ... I'm sure it will be fine. Nothing really to go wrong with buttons on dash or steering wheel. The electrical box maybe and maybe the motor would be the only pieces to worry about.

 

Well I have done some more looking. I can use the factory harness wires (looked at the wiring diagram) to hook up an aftermarket cruise if I can't find a factory unit(which would cut done on my install time). I am not gonna try to buy one piece here and another there, I will get the whole sys from one person if I can find one in time, takeing a 2800 mile round trip vacation. So a motor doesn't really help me.

 

I've got everything you need from a 94PEG.

I've done the conversion on two R1s.

Spyfish, where are the wiring for the main cruise switch and the steering wheel control? Is it all just a matter of taking off the dash cover around the gauges?

 

Yeah, if you take off the steering wheel you'll see the plug in there. If you take off the instrument cluster you'll see the plug in there too.
