Cruise Control Problems

Hey all,
I've search the archives and it seems some people have had problems with the clutch switch and possably the brake switch which does not allow the cruise control to lock on a speed. This means that the cruise control is ON but not able to capture and hold a speed. However, in my case when I press the 'ON' master button the orange light come on but when I release the button it goes off again. Since I have owned this car I have never been able to get the light to stay on when I press the button.
So first question; is the master button a momentary or a toggle switch? My switch acts like a momentary. Second question, if it is a momentary switch, what could cause the master 'ON' to fail? I have checked fuses and clutch switch at this point.

Thanks in advance,
Tony

I think cruise troubleshooting is covered in the body electrical manual:

If not, it's in the service manual.

it is a toggle switch... and it resets every time the ignition is turned off.
pressing it will toggle on/off but the button will spring back into position (i.e. it will not stay down)... that light should stay on until it is pushed again or the car is turned off.

basically, i think you have an electrical problem with the master power to the system itself... clutch or brake switches are unlikely to cause your problem.

Dave,
Cruise troubleshooting is in the Body Electrical Manual. Unfortuantely, that troubleshooting guide assumes that the master power to the unit is working. The first step it asks you to do is to press and hold the main switch while turning the key to the ON position. This does not work for me. When I do this, as soon as I let go of the main switch the LED on the switch goes out and I get no trouble codes.
