Question Crazy Clutch Sound...Please Halp!

Ok guys, I am having a wierd issue with my fd and need your help.

Backround:
About a year ago I replaced my tranny, clutch, flywheel, and bearings. Everything ran wonderfully til about 2 weeks ago. NOW I get a really wierd noise coming from the clutch area.

When I push in the clutch (either in gear or not) I get this metal on metal rubbing noise. I thought that the clutch wasn't engaging all the way at first, so I tightened it up all the way so the clutch engages way back. It also makes the noise between shifting. If I am sitting still and the clutch is not engaged it makes no noise. If I push the clutch in it starts making this rubbing noise, but not constant. Just on and off. It is not like a bearing. I had that problem before (shaft support bearing) that is why I changed the tranny.

Any thoughts or idea?

I can't think of anything else to tell ya'll, but let me know if anything else could tip ya'll off.

thanks,
-josh

Sounds like a bad throwout bearing, or less likely, the pilot bearing.

If you did not replace the pilot bearing or at least grease it at clutch change time, it is probably the pilot bearing.

I did change it and the little rubber gasket seal thingy when I changed the clutch. I was thinking the throw out bearing too.

pilot bearing, guarenteed...

been all through this, check the snub on your input shaft, i ended up having to swap transmissions so it'd quit eating pilot bearings

^^^^great....I just changed this tranny about a year ago because the shaft support bearing was shot, and about three syncros were shot. Hope I don't have to do this again.

thanks guys,
-josh
