IMO there is a design flaw with RX7 key and it's Mazda's fault. There is a weak/thin spot on the key where all keys bend or crack or break from exactly that section just like in OP's picture. Metal quality will effect the durability but still, it shouldn't have been there in the first place.

Here is a pic of an OEM, Valet, and an Ace Hardware copy.

Oddly the Valet key is very sturdy, feels like a harder metal, fresh JDM nickle plating perhaps.

OEM and knock off are about the same and both show cracking in the same place near where his broke. On my keys it starts on the outer edges on both sides. I have broken one key in the past. Looks like it's time for some copies.

Check your keys and keep those lock cylinders lubed.

Just an FYI.. I would not be posting pics of keys. Anyone with knowledge of key coding or access to a cutter can copy a key by an image like that. And your locations are clearly posted as well...

my keys break all the time and it gets worse in the summer. for some reason the lock cylinder gets really hard to turn when its hot out I dont know why. I pulled it out one day to inspect it and lubed it up but still no good.

YIKES!

Sorry really not that paranoid, more worried about getting my wheel valve stem covers stolen. It's a matter of probability and perspective.

Ok I made 5 spare keys!!!! lol. I Have retired the 2 original keys! I also think it has something to do with the lock, not 100% on the keys, I just had a brand new key made and opened it once and the key was twirked ever so slightly.....Freakin FD's
