crank angle sensor question?

I am in the process of putting my car back together and I come to the crank angle sensor plate. The manual is a little vague here, it states the clearance between the plate and the pin should be 1-2 mm. Mine is bolted all the way on in the only position it will go and it is 3.5mm. Is the only purpose of the pin for use with a timing light? Or does this mean that my crank angle sensor plate is to far away from the crank angle sensors?

Also, why does it state in the manual to be sure the white mark(where the notch is) on the CAS plate should be lined up with the pin?

Have those of you that put this part back on after a rebuild just bolted it on and forgetten about it without incident or does some adjustment need to me made?

thanks for helping

on the FD it can realy on be on there one way. you *can* bend the tab, i have heard of haltech users doing this for more acurate pickup. the notch is a 20*ATDC mark. the pin is to line up the notch when checking the timing.
with a haltech you need to use this info to zero your timing, but on a stock ECU you can not change anything anyway, so i have never thought about it. the ecu knows where the motor in (TDC) by the 2 pickups.
