Ok so first of all i am a total rx7 noob, i dont know much of anything about rotary engines and ive never even seen a 93+ in person :-P. that being said i am thinking about selling my 300zx and possibly my integra and picking up a 93+ rx7. ive been looking around and it seems like they only came in one style, 2d turbo coupe. i knew that all were 2d but i thought there was a non turbo model. this may sound like a dumb question but as i said im new tothese. also i saw alot of people talking about going to a single turbo setup would it be worthwhile to do a bigger twin setup like turbos from a supra or vr4? also is it resonable to think i can get one of these for 6k ish? it would be nice to get a modded one but i know that they usually start around 11k but ive seen a few out there for 6500. oh and this is to the turbo question.. if they do only come in a turbo model would it be dumb to buy a jdm engine or is there much of a difference between us and jdm engines for these cars. well any help in all this would be great and try not to rip me apart to bad.

There are few things as expensive as a $6000 FD. Figure on spending double than again to get it into reasonable shape.

i jumped into owning an fd w/o any knowledge of what i was getting myself into. i wouldn't suggest following suit. i love my fd to death but it's cost me a pretty penny. gl.

thanks for the help, ive searched quite a bit and have learned some cool stuff about these rides. Im deffinatly gonna have to test drive one to see but i love the look as well as the interior look. I used to own a toyoa mr2 and it looks like the center consol has that high middle part where the shifter is, i miss driving my 2 bc it was so comfortable. If anyone has one in AZ and would be willing to let me drive it haha that would be sick, im probably gonna find a dealership next time im in phoenix just to see how they feel.

98 teg, like some have stated...please spend a lot of time in the FAQ sticky at the top of this forum. Then look in the regional forums to see if there are local meets in your area. That would be a great place to see the cars and speak with owners that could give you first-hand insight.

As for the dealership statement, I am sure he was talking about finding used RX-7s that are being sold at dealerships. That is actually where I bought mine back in '96...

98 teg, please don't be put off by some 'holier than thou" FD owners. I promise you that not all FD owners are bad. Just go into this pursuit with all the knowledge you can get and I am sure you will be fine. Just be aware that the FD is a money pit...

do you have a daily driver car? this 6k FD will not be on the road much. before you do anything you need to spend a lot of time on this forum just reading and learning about these cars. look your going to need at least 12-15k for a good condition FD if you are going to drive it full time. also you sound young do you have a full time job. this car take a lot of maint/service so you need a good job to keep up with gas and service.

My 93 7 is in phoenix. I don't know about driving it but you might be able to go check it out. Its at a buddies house as I am still stuck in Iraq for a few more months. Would be nice have a few more AZ FD's. AZ Rotary Rockets is also there, you might be able to go see a few there as well. Let me know, and continue your research!

yeah i do have a daily driver, a 98 acura integra, and a 91 but thats more of a work in progress im trying to sell. as for the dealership comment i was only saying that id see if any dealers have one so i can test drive one to see if i like how they feel. i doubt i would buy one from a dealer bc of the huge markup. and yeah i have a full time job, i go to school too but my job is mainly for fun money so if i can get the initial amount saved for a starter project a good chunk of my checks could go to the car. just gotta work on my saving ability. As i said i have been searching and learning about these rides. the main reason for this post was to get to know some rx7 owners and get a few posts out there so i can view some of the stuff you all have in your signitures :-P anyway thanks for the info. oh and im 22 so kinda young to some of you i guess.

This car can really suck you dry financially. I would recommend that you first, get yourself a place to live which you can afford on your own (i.e. you don't require friends to help pay the bills). Once you have a place of your own, then look at getting a car. That may or many not be a RX7, but you should get some priorities established first. What's a nice car without a nice garage to put it in?

i pretty much did the same thing...as long as you get a semi-reliable fd with 55k- miles, thats running stock boost. you should be ok for long enough to learn wat you need to know. i am making out ok so far

if you like the car make sure to research and learn about it as much as you can before you buy it. i would also highly recommend you have another couple grand saved in the bank AFTER payin for the car as it will require maintenance to get it back up to speed.

i got a 94, and i jumped into the rotary bandwagon with lil knowledge about them. i would not recommend u do the same, specially since the 3rd gen's parts cost more than 2nd gens. also, theres a lot of reading you should do. i DD my fd and i love it, but it costs me an arm and leg.
