Could not pass 160Kmh in 5th

Today coming to the office i could not pass 160 Kmh in 5th (more or less 100mph)
i floored it but no chance
i downshifted in 4th and there where no problems up to the redline
so i tried again but ... bump no more than 160
i kept it floored a little while and then it hiccupped a bit 'til 180 but then stopped again, really like a rev limiter
i tried no more and slowed down

what could it be????

jdm car? jdm speed limiter 99% sure. might be able to chip it, but an aftermarket ecu will fix it also.

I don't know about the european version FD's but our version (USA) with stock ECU will shut off @ 159MPH,
the speed governer will not allow you go over that mileage no matter which gear you are!

Than you must have another problem somewhere.
Try discribing little more how your car acts in idle and acceleration when shifting gears.
Do you feel a difference from before?

FD's do not have speed governors or other limiters. It has fuel cut at greater than "X" psi but thats it.

My bet would be pssible fuel filter clogged or bad plugs, do you have normal boost in 3rd and 4th?

He's in Italia, where they have the autostradas that are like the autobahns in Germany. If there's no traffic, many of them are fine at that speed, believe or not.

No worries. I just wish the average drivers over here were half as good as the majority of drivers over there. Over there, the fast lane is just that; it's reserved for the traffic that is able to cruise at the faster speed than most. So when people see you coming up behind them (yes, they actually know how to use their mirrors over there), they immediately move over to let you by. Basic highway traffic etiquette-- what a concept. They don't doddle along at 55 mph, oblivious to the fact that they're holding up a line of 15 cars in the fast lane.

Some of these responses are astounding. Do you people know anything about your own fricking cars?

USA FDs do not have a speed limiter of any kind. There is a fuel cut at overboost and there is also a rev limiter that kicks in at 8300 rpm.

I don't know about European market FDs but it sounds like something else is effecting your car. Is your car completely stock? What is happening to your boost levels when the cut happens?

I know I read it somewhere, a while back though, but I can't remember where in the hell it was.
I'm not making it up, it was a magazine of either Motor Trend or Car and Driver or some other car mag.

You misunderstood. The car mags reported a top speed that was DRAG LIMITED. There is no speed limiter on the FD. Period.

US FD's have a speed limiter, it is called a "my car doesnt have the power to go any faster than 159 mph" limiter. The limiter is adjustable, add more power and the limit goes up.
