If anyone has had there car repainted, what did it cost?
Been going around and getting est., but trying to see if the est. are normal. Car 94 Red, paint still looks good, but is faded in certain areas. Bumpers, hatch, mirror and headlight covers. Thanks!

try to good a good cleaning of the paint and wax it, it can really bring back the color. But a good repaint, if you paint the same color, it's easier/cheaper. I'd say 1000-2000 is a good range. IF you want an entirely different color then we're talking 3000-4000

Wah ha ha! It's lot cheaper here in Thailand. For slow-dry new paint (in different color) including mending scratches and everything cost you maximum 40,000 Thai Baht (approximately 1,000 USD)

I got mine painted.

Paint is one of those things where you get what you pay for. If you just want them to lightly sand and paint over your existing paint. It will cost about $1000. Maaco could get you a good deal. The paint won't look that great and will probably look bad again in a few years.

If you want show quality paint, that has ZERO defects. The paint shop will strip the car to bare metal and work the paint up. This paint gets expensive. Usually with show quality paint they will paint underhood and all door and hatch sills as well. This is probably closer to $10k.

There is a middle ground. I had all the little dings and knicks etc. filled and most all of the paint removed. It was removed by sanding not by chemical stripping. So the base is still the factory base. This is not quite as good as chemical stripping, but is much easier. The car was then painted with the same color Vintage Red, which is some of the most expensive paint out there (of course.) PPG makes paint that is an exact match of the factory color. I had them paint the driver's side door sill as well, because the paint had rubbed off. You can get all this done for around $4000-$5000k. I saved money by leaving the car at the shop all winter long. This way the guys could work on the car in their spare time as filler. You might find prices better than this, but like I said you get what you pay for. Some shops will leave dirt in the paint or lots of orange peel.

Was it worth it? OMG yes! You should see it. The car looks better than when it was new. My paint was fading and even the clear started to peel off in some areas before I got it restored. I should have some pictures around somewhere.

In most cases the paint does not need to be striped. If it has been painted several times then yes, but if it's still has the factory finish and is not peeling, striping is a waste of money. If you going to do it yourself that's one thing.

the body shop should just sand down any ruff or high spots, fill in dents and spray the car in a primer. then the primer can be sanded 100% smooth and painted.

Painting you definitley get what you pay for. Ask alot of questions, find out how they are going to paint the car. Are they just going to tape off everything or are they going to remove the windsheild, interior ect. The more they do the more it will cost but the better it will be. Just don't pay alot if they aren't doing the extra work.

it should be around $3500-5000 for a decent job. any less than that and it will be obvious
