IIRC, the distance from 'low' to 'full' on the FD dipstick is 1.8 qts, not the 1 qt you'd intuitively think it is.

Lol he already did. I'm audi certified, and i now work on vw's and have worked on bmw, porsche and mercedes. I have to say, i can not wait to stop working on these over-engineered piles of poo poo. Worst cars ever when compared to things like toyota and lexus.

Dont make it so hard. The oil level does not need to be 100% totally perfect. I dont always even let my car run for long before i check it. Its always with in maybe a cup of oil + or - as far as accuracy is concerned. Its just an oil change.

From the Mazda Service Manual

1. Be sure the vehicle is on level ground
2. Warm up the engine to normal operating teperature and stop it.
3. Wait five minutes.
4. Remove the oil dipstick and check the oil level and condition.
5. Add or replace oil as necessary.

done.

Here we go...
thanks for this post... seems like Mazda engineers made this over engineering on the oil check, too!

So I think thread is closed!

Thanks for the answer...

PS: I have to work on my japanese... Maybe I could have read this in my manuel, too

I think I'll organize a group buy for "Spirit R" dipsticks. They will look and work exactly like the 93-95 dipstick, but will add an extra 20 rwhp (estimated). The price will be $500 each. That will include shipping. Post your name on this thread if you want one.

but is it a ditigal one that displays on my dashboard how much oil is left?
and does this mean if i want to check the proper oil level, i have to bring my car to mazda and have them professionally do it on a rack?

I´ll always start a discussion with some additional informations and the right question.

The question ist...
Which exact steps do We have to perform to read the dipstick right.

I have an example.
Working for Mercedes-Benz @ the engine Developement and dealing with the oil circuit I know:

to use the dipstick right, you have to heat up the car to 90°C Oil temp.
Then you have to stop the motor. wait for exactly 5 minutes...
and then you can read the dipstick right.

So... does anyone knows right how they defined the procedure for correct measure with the dipstick?

Greetings from germany

Woeep
God I love the Germans. Thanks Wo Deep for asking this question; it restores my faith in your race.

It's that kind of thinking that gives the world the Wankel engine, space travel, Luger pistols, cuckoo clocks, etc. Awesome.

Gee...I've always just pulled it out, stuck it in and pulled it out.

I sometimes have a smoke afterward.

thats the difference between japanese engineering and german engineering.

the rotary is simple, the oil just sits in the bottom of the engine. as long as you're on a reasonably level surface, you can check the car hot or cold, try checking it running, it just doesnt make much difference.
