Question Cooling Temp Differences

Hey, just wondering for those of you with an aftermarket water temperature gauge. What are differences in temperature between the stock and aftermarket radiators if measured? While in motion or idle.

Instead of buying a bigger radiator, anyone ever think of getting two permacool or SPAL fans that flow ALOT and just leaving them on all the time?

Or is the stock radiator 'that' bad?

The stock Fans are not the problem. In fact, they're being used in CA18DET's and SR20DET 180SX's here to go from belt driven fans to electric fans. It's the RADIATOR that is the problem. Have you seen how THIN it is?

Temp Diff

Before Koyo Radiator install, average temp is 87-90 deg. Fan on.

After Koyo Radiator install, average temp is 81-82 deg. Fan on, on hot hot summer day temp doesn't go above 86 deg C.

Does that answer your questions.

Timmy

Not only thin, but plastic end tanks too! What was Mazda thinking when they put that in?? I have an autometer gauge and was told this brand has a tendency to read high. My mechanic did a check with this instrument at the filler neck and compared temps with the gauge and true coolant temperature at the filler neck. Turns out there is about a 20 degree difference. So If my gauge reads 210, the actual temperature is about 190. Bummer, If only I knew this before I got it, I would have bought a different one. I am curious if anyone else has similar problems with this brand gauge.

What made you go with the Koyo? Do you know if it mates well with the M2 medium SMIC. Ease of install? I like your coolant numbers with the Koyo.
