Coolant spilling after shut down (Not overflow tank)

After shutdown, I looked at the radiator to see where it was leaking from, and from what I seen, it looks like it's coming from the top of the radiator and travels to the corners of it and drips. After driving, I immediately looked at it and it was dry. A couple of minutes, and it starts to leak like crazy, then my buzzer comes on. I'm guessing a seal of some sort. If my radiator was cracked wouldn't it constantly leak? Any ideas on what it could be???

Is it the original radiator? I'd seriously look into getting a Koyo radiator asap if thats the case.

I'm just trying to figure if it's fixable. I can't afford to buy a radiator just yet, but I might be able to afford to fix it if it's a easy an simple fix.

THat's what happened to me. I bought a FLUIDYNE radiator, direct fit and great radiator too!

A friend of mine managed to chang the upper tank. However, a few weeks later the lower tank cracked and repaired too. The result was ---> Spend the same amount of new aluminium radiator to repair old, (mostly clogged) stock radiator.

You'll be better off, buying a new one. I suggest TURBOIMPORT (www.turboimport.com). Currently, they have some special offers on rads. Great guys, great service.

Good luck!

It sounds like it's leaking where the end tank is crimped on. This is a common failure for the FD radiator and there is no fix. If you can't afford to shell out $$ for a shiny one, maybe a used one from the for-sale section will hold you over.

Here is an all-metal unit, used, for $20. This has got to be the deal of the month. It's even in VA.

Hey Flynn, get the $20 rad. It should last you till you can get a Koyo or Fluidyne.

The stock radiator is partly plastic and as with all plastic engine pieces in the FD, it will fail with time. If you would like to upgrade to a Koyo, Fluidyne or PWR- PM me and I'll see what kind of price I can get for you-

I just started a job and it's going to probably take a good month before I have enough cash to buy a Fluidyne or a Koyo. My car is basically the only mode of transportation to and from work. My question is, will Stop Leak work for the leak I have long enough for me to save money for a month? I've heard some bad things about using stuff like that and that it can actually cause more harm.

That's exactly what my dad told me. But if that's the case, then what the hell are they good for then? It's suppose to stop leaks but instead clogs it? The thing is, I AM going to replace the radiator. It'll be about a month before that happens though. I just want it to hold up for about a month so I can go to work with out causing more damage then there already is.

"Stop leaks" are most often used on beaters on their last legs to get people enough time to buy a better car.

And, if it's the stock RX7 radiator that's leaking, it may not work anyway, since the leak is not just a pinhole somewhere in the metal, it's the end tank seals failing due to taking a "set." This would be likely to recur even with the "stop-leak."

Then you would have accomplished nothing except gumming up your cooling system.

BTW, I have a radiatorworld copper unit (almost new - long story - link: https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...=radiatorworld ) and a stock unit that is in good shape except for being 15 years old, either of which I could sell you for a good price.

JB Weld?!?!?! Heh. I just hate not being able to drive my car and having to rely on getting a ride or taking public transportation. Especially going to work. I hate to do it but I just really want to give it a band aid for now because it really sucks to not have a car of your own to drive.

Is a $2000 motor worth chancing $10 of JB Weld on??? If you needed to do it to get the car back home, then that would be a justifiable risk. Remember most of the stuff you can put on it will be on the outside, not inside where it is cracked and leaking. The system is pressurized and usually forces the outside stuff to crack again.

Where are you located? Are you in Virginia and where at specifically? I am sure that there has got to be someone with a stock radiator just setting around nearby.

Tim

Yeah, I understand what your saying. Guess I just got to be patient.

I'm not located in Virginia anymore. Moved back to Nor Cal and forgot to update my profile. Which reminds me...
