Coolant sensors...

Yep, searched... No luck. One of my sensors on the fill tube/thermostat housing cracked and snapped off recently. I'm not sure what it does though...

All the threads I've found on the subject mention 3 sensors. Thermo and temp on back, level sensor on front. The black sensor in the pic is level, and that's working fine. Fans are controlled via PFC and datalogit. PFC temps are reading normal. That makes me think my level, temp, and thermo sensors are good. So what could this sensor be then? Take a look at this pic:

92 JDM fd, 5spd swap all other details are irrelevant.

Sorry for caveman post from iPhone.

Actually, they aren't irrelevant. The automatics have an extra temp sensor that manuals do not have which is what you are point to.

Ahhh thanks. I'm boggled as to what it does though...

I know the auto tranny circulates (ATF) fluid through a chamber on the radiator. Does that have anything to do with the operation of this sensor?

Btw, I mentioned 5spd swap as relevant info lol.

I'm not sure, but probably another thermoswitch to be activated based on the transmission cooling. I've never owned an auto FD so I've never needed to know to be honest. I provided the link above as it references some pages in the FSM. If you are curious, you can research the pages in the FSM as referenced in the link provided.

If it is anything like the logic used on the FC, it locks up the torque converter once it gets past a certain temperature to try to lower the heat generated by the transmission in an effort to reduce the likelyhood of overheating.
