Coolant Refill...this Sucks!

OKAY I JUST DRAINED ALL MY COOLANT AND NOW IM REFILLING IT..
I KET SQEEZING THE LOWER RADIATOR HOSE TO GET RID OF SOME AIR POCKETS...

I HAVE THE FUNNEL WITH RADIATOR CAP ON IT, SO THE CAR WAS RUNNING AND MY BUDDY WAS WATCHIG THE WATER TEMP THE GAUGE READ HALF WAY BUT THE PFC READ 25c BY NOW IT TOOK A GALLON AND A 1/4 OF COOLANT.....STILL TAKING MORE IN SLOWLY THEN THE IDLE WENT UP TO 1500RPMS.....AND THE TEMP ON THE PFC WAS CLIMBING SLOWLY BUT THE GAUGE STAYED IN THE MIDDLE. THEN THE PFC READ 100 AND THE FAN NEVER CAME ON BY THE WAY....SO I TURNED THE CAR OFF......

WHY DID THE IDLE JUMP UP FROM 900 T0 1500RPMS AND MY FANS NEVER CAME ON I THOUGHT THEY WERE SOPPOSE TO COME ON AT 98c????

ANYH SUGGESTIONS.......................THANKS...

theres a write up on http://fd3s.net/cooling_system_flush.html i just flushed mine recently and i went with using the redline water wetter product they recommend. think you can get them at any autozone. the capacity from that website states that its 2 gallons 1.3 quarts so in all gallons that'd be like 2.325 gallons. get one gallon of coolant that isnt mixed, a bottle of wetter water, and the rest distilled water. this will yield around 44% anti freeze 64% water solution. i see that you live in mass. so you should ask someone nearby how much antifreeze they run so it doesnt freeze in winter. when filling the system pull that coolant return hose on the throttle body to vent air while burping. there is a coolant pour rate i think it was like somewhere about a liter /minute cause if you pour more it'll spill everywhere. pulse the radiator hoses to release air bubbles and move the water into the engine. try to fill it as much as you can with water then run the engine till warm turn off. let cool probably for a long time now cause rotarys get hot fast. make sure you depressureize the cap before you release it and add more water. add distilled water as needed until its at the appropriate level.

hey thanks for the info i got it done last night..

I used the coolant funnel and filled it half way while the car was runing i lifted the front of the car about 4 feet on the lift and had my budy hold the rpm at 3000rps with the heat on full blast.... that thing burpped like crazy and sucked up so much more coolant.....my heat was extra hot and no more air bubbles......this worked really good...

now my coolant temps are variying from 89-94c...

revhardallday,

for what its worth...

the Power FC on my 93 touring shows temps at 79 on the freeway and never over 92 in stop-and-go traffic. my fans come on when the Power FC water temp reaches 91. i still have the stock (non-vented) hood.

i didn't have a precise water temp gauge before getting my Power FC, but i noticed that the car was much less anemic after i put in the Koyo, which, incidentally is twice as thick as the stock radiator.

if you're concerned about keeping the engine cooler - and all the sensors and air+fuel flowing through the engine - this might help.

some ppl feel that upgrading the radiator is not necessary, but it made a big difference for my car.

i also modified the Koyo mounting points to have the radiator fit a little lower in the engine bay and more in-line with the hole in the bumper.
