I was trying to remove a coolant hose off its nipple (near the thermoswitch) but there was a bulge in the hose that was too big for the clamp to move across. I cut the hose off and found a rusty coolant hose nipple:



I believe the nipple on the other side of the hose is also rusted like this one.

What's the best way to deal with this?

 

Many times that's just caked-on crud. Wire wheel on a Dremel will clean up up nice and quick.

Just as long as it isn't rusted through or something you'll be OK.
