Angry Coolant Light, It Comes On, It Goes Off, It Comes On, It Goes Off!

WTF? Why is my light coming on after I top off the coolant level.
It'll usually do it when I'm at a stop light, but when I start driving it turns off??? My fluidyne is on its way, think that'll help?

Thanks!

Well you can have a faulty sending unit or you are overheating at idle (ie. heat soaking with no air running through the radiator).

The Fluidyne will help a lot. Love mine and it was one of the best mods I ever did.

Could be either...

1)Air in the system
2)Insufficient collant
3)Bad sensor
4)Loose wire
5)Aliens

Here's a few things to check.
does the alarm go off when you start your car sometimes, only to go off after a little driving?
is the coolant resovoir full even when this happens.
check the level under the cap (not the one on the air seperator!) is it low there?

if yes to these questions, you are getting air in your system. unfortunately, this is a trial and error problem. it could be
coolant cap
air seporator cap
one of the three hoses that comes out of the air seperator tank
a bad thermostat
the o-ring gasket between the part that holds the coolant cap and the thermostat housing.

replace the hoses becuase it's cheap. then replace the caps. 9 times out of ten, that will fix it. on my car, I needed to replace the thermostat and the o-ring before the problem went away. if you do replace the o-ring, be very carefull. the thermostat housing is aluminum and it is VERY easy to strip out the bolt threads.

Thanks EX.

I usually check he levels before I drive, and I am usually always topped off and I still get the light. Its leading me to beleive that I am getting air from somewhere.

I have the Pettit AST so that cap should be good and I thought my stock radiator cap was bad so I relaced it with a new 13 lbs cap from autozone. Is 13 enough? I heard of people getting 18 lbs caps from somewhere. I will also replace the 3 that go to the ast. If not than I will replace the "o-ring"
