Hi guys i just recent bought my 94 RX7 5 months ago and today it was pretty hot so i thought id run my A/C. so i was driving home from school and ran the A/C for 20 minutes and went home to eat. As i was starting to leave i noticed there was a huge puddle of coolant and water under the car. i was thinking it was just condinsation but it had coolant in it. The previous owner had just installed a new radiator a week before i got it and a aluminum AST tank. i jacked the car up and took off the undercover and noticed that the radiator hoses were all fine and radiator wasnt leaking. but i looked at the overfill tank and saw that coolant was shooting out of there. im thinking that there was too much air in the system and the A/C made it should out anybody have any ideas?

 

Let it cool down and check the levels. Try to determine if your overflow tank or hose is leaking...or if it was just overflowing.

The stock temp gauge is worse than useless on these cars. It is not linear, and once it moves off roughly horizontal, damage may already have occurred. If you or the previous owner haven't done so already, install an aftermarket temp gauge ASAP.

You might also check fan operation http://www.fd3s.net/fan_test.html and make sure you radiator and oil cooler(s) are clean.

 

i have an aftermarket gauge it was reading around 190. then i turned the car off and let it cool then started it and it was hard to start so i let it run for 10 min. then i took the ground off on the battery to reset the ECU and let it cool for 2 hours and started up fine. i started to drive it and it sounded like air was trying to get out of the radiator cap. D you think it might be a bad Water pump?

 

Did the previous owner "burp" the system when he / she installed the new radiator and AST?

Had you driven it substantially before this incident occurred? (you said owned for 5 months, but how many drives? and long drives?)

With some of the hoses, if it's a pressurized leak, the hoses may look fine with the car turned off and the system no pressurized.

 

Replace the pressure cap(either located on teh AST if you still have it or the water filler neck) first, then verify the line going to the overflow has no leaks. I would make sure to top the car off with coolant/distilled water before driving again.
