Coolant Leak, need advice

Ill cut right to the point. I was driving around town yesterday for a few hours. not running the car too hard, and all is well. However when I pulled into the mall here and got out I noticed a massive puddle of coolant underneath the passenger side of the engine bay. And as I looked back where I had just driven there was an ample amount of coolant. I immediately turned the fans of the car on and opened the hood.

My buddy who was driving around with me went out to pep boys and picked up some more coolant and a gallon of distilled water. I checked the coolant levels and the whole stick was wet with condensation, and after being wiped dry and reinserted it came up about 3/4 of the way between low and full (and it was really freakin hot)

We then turned the car off and added some more coolant and it almost immediately started coming back out.. Couldnt quite tell from where though

The car isnt lowered or anything like that and I didnt smash it into anything.. is it possible for the coolant to have expanded and cracked something or a hose to have slipped off?

thanks for any help! Im pretty desperate (it was scary)

Similar thing happened to me just recently. It can be one of two thing's: 1. You have air in the system that needs to be flushed out. or 2. (your going to hate this one) Your coolant seal(s) are done. Hopefully its not number 2 which WAS the case for me but you never know. The coolant you see coming out from under the pass. side front below the engine bay is more then likely comfing out of the breather hole of the overflow tank...if you look closely you can see it comming out, sometimes hear it to. There are many threads relating to this topic though.... i know for a fact because i made one of my own not long ago,... so do some research and see what you can find because you are not the first person to have this problem and there is a lot more info out there... Hope that helps.

Good luck,

Zach

to know for certain if your motor is cooked let the car cool off. Remove the coolant cap from the thermostat housing and start the car. If coolant is immediately forced out and bubbles (big or small) start coming up then you have a blown coolant seal and combustion gasses are getting in the cooling system. If your coolant seals are ok you will likely get very little coolant pushing out until the temps start rising, then the coolant will expand and will gently overflow.
