ANODIZEMENT! ~ All tech guys Please have some IMPUT!
Hey guys
I know the basic anodizement procedures but the whole new multicolor Ti look is very impressive. I know it's a paint based material that some how they conduct a current through to get the look and improve the strength. Anyone else have the full procedure on this? I want to know if the paint is purchasable and applyable to parts such as the UIM, LIM etc

You have two different processes there. The word is anodizing and its for aluminum. Nitriding Titanium is another process. They are not paints. You could do either to the LIM or UIM but neither is improves the strength. Anodizing seals the part by making the aluminum corode and then following up with a process to color (dye is used) and seal the corrosion that is formed. Titanium Nitriding creates a hard surface, used to protect the surface of a material. It would be very costly to perform on aluminum though. Anodizing though would cost less and would help prevent corrosion if using ethanol, plus it could be colored to look cool.

where i work we use an acid based chemical called stripper that has the same affect on metal and alunimum(we use it on our hand scrapers to get them clean). it has to soak over night though. i'll have to test it on a few other parts. it cost around 120.00 for a 5 gallon pale and is hazardous if it comes in contact with skin

No titanium nitride does not produce the rainbow effect. Titanium nitride is gold. Yes you can "anodize" titanium, but it 1) weakens the metal albeit not enough to be concerned on "show" pieces like those rims. and 2) is a completely different process than aluminum anodizing.
Here is my daily driver, notice the FMIC ducts, polished anodized titanium:
The surface of the part must be titanium for this to work, so that means it's either all titanium or has been coated (I think Chemical Vapor Deposition, or CVD, would work). Either option is extremely pricey.
As for the Gram Lights, from what I recall the lip is removable like an insert and I think it is stainless steel with a Ti coating, then anodized.
Funny you should ask about this cause these just came out:

they are super heavy and definitely cast Al (although the ad says both cast and forged - ). You wont be able to get away with that offset on an FD (even with stretched tires) without wide fenders.

How much would it be to coat simple stuff such as a UIM an LIM.
Fyi ~ I'd never throw on rims that weigh that much no matter how nice they looked. To me 22 is the most I will go.

As for how much, having one piece done its going to take either a good friend who works there or alot of money (I'd guess $2k+). Those places aren't really set up to do one off pieces. They make tooling and fixtures to hold hundreds of parts and then coat them all at once.
