coolant leak
that's one possibility..but the gasket is brand new and I scarped off the mating surface with nail polish remover and razor blade until it's pretty smooth..maybe I didn't do a good job on that..however, this evening I am going to take off the undertray and see where it is leaking from..maybe some pictures, too.
The car broke down in UCR parking lo and i was workng on it there lol..I am worried about driving it now.

The gasket I'm talking about is not the one where the water pump meet the water pump housing. When you were scraping the gasket material off the water pump housing did you notice it would shift around ? Well if it moved the the gasket on the back side of the water pump housing (where it mates to the front engine housing) has been torn or broken (I've never seen one seperate without damage) The water pump housing shares 4 bolts through the water pump housing and the water pump when you loosen the nuts off these long studs and remove the rest of the short bolts on the water pump the rear gasket gets damaged (unsless you're extremely lucky) I'll see if I can find some of my old pictures of this area and post up where I'm talking about. so I removed the undertray. It's not leaking from there. Then I removed the heat shield..and I am pretty sure the coolant is leaking out from the passenger side crossmember. Is that where the turbo is? I think I saw it. Is it possible that the mechanic didn't put one of the tube back well enough so it fell it way down?
Here's one of the pictures . To the left you can see the mating surface I'm talking about (three bolt holes) that goes up against the motor. That's the gasket that gets damaged when you pull the water pump off
The turbo-cooling water lines are a common leak source. They get hot and cooked, and eventually leak. The hard lines they attach to also sometimes leak, but that is less common.

im in the process of replacing the wp and gasket and the wp housing gasket as well but I can't seem to find a way to take them off!!!! any help will be appreciated. first thing, the PS pulley nut won't budge even with an impact gun!
i got the same problem. when i put in coolant in the coolant reservior tank, it just came right out, and when i drive it for 20 minute or so, coolant started spraying out when i shut the car down making alot of white smoke. temp under the hood was so hot that smoke started to form on the outside. have that check out and turns out that my radiator hose busted where the clamp suppose to hold it in place near the filler cap. replace the hose with new aftermarket and no more leak or white smoke and its much cooler under the hood.
The easiest and only way to work with these parts is to remove the studs. Double nut the studs pul them out and then you can move the parts around enough to work on the gasket surface to the front of the motor and the rear of the water pump housing. I did remove my I/C for some extra room.
