Coolant hose troubles (pics)
Ok, i found a thread in the archives that addresses exactly the same problem that i am having. Heres the link: https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...e+coolant+hose
The pictures of the connector and the piece that broke off in the hose are attatched. (the broken piece connects to the little bit of brown that the hose is resting on, its the nipple that broke off)
My question is. What is that plastic piece? I assume there is a reason for it since mazda put it there instead of just connecting the hose to that metal pipe (which is what i'm planning to do today to get my car running temporarily). Is there any consequences for just extending the hose instead of replacing the part? how many other people have had this problem?
Also notice Dale Clark says that the part is available in the Help! section of the parts store and that it is the same as a ford part. Does anyone know what he means by the parts store and what ford part it is the same as?
Thanks in advance

It is a quick disconnect... rather a quick connect which made it easier to drop the motor in originally when the car was built.
Your options are to replace the plastic, you can order the part from Mazda and its not that expensive. Alternatively you can just bust off the rest of the plastic, slip the hose over the metal and get a good hose clamp on there. The stock spring hose clamp isnt small or tight enough to seal well, so a regular hose clamp will come in handy.

ah, ok thanks.
I guess i'll just break the rest of it off and put it on the metal with a screw down clamp for now. I'm gonna replace it though.. i suppose. Even if it is plastic.

This is what i am doing, when i 'quick' disconnected the fitting the orings fell out of it.. so i said screw it, ill just fasten the hose onto the metal pipe.

Mine broke at the same point. Used pliers to break up the pieces still in the coolant hose, cleaned it out and went straight onto the metal with new clamps.
Worked great.

Ok, I have fixed it. I just broke the quick connect plastic piece off like everyone said. And it turns out that the metal pipe comes directly up to the plastic nipple that broke... in other words... ITS ******* POINTLESS! except to break and make you refill your coolant. I recommend everyone getting rid of it, no point for it anymore.
END OF THREAD.
