Well I pretty much got everything back together last night after a long project, finish filling it back up with coolant. Go to start the car, won't start.. remove TB elbow and I can smell gas.. flooded..ok. Get under the car and notice a persistent drip, drip of coolant onto the garage floor. I traced it down to the area around the 1" Dia. hose that connects to what looks like the front engine cover underneath the upper radiator hose. From what I remember this hose was in good shape, I slid the clamp on a little more but it was still dripping. Is there anything else in this region that could be leaking without the system under any pressure? I imagine the water pump could but I am pretty sure it is not from there, it is too far toward the driver side.. plus I installed a Greddy pulley on it so I would have noticed if it was leaking. I know I am fishing here and you guys are just going to tell me to take the hose off and look at it (which I plan to do), but what is this hose exactly? It is just a heater hose right? I can't find it in my parts diagram..

Nah, in the first photo on the site you can barely see it down on the bottom right. I just can't figure how it would be dripping coolant w/the clamp on it before I even start the car.

 

Did you check the filler neck? If that wasn't tightened enough, it could drip down onto that hose. I think the hose you are talking about is the one that leads to the overflow tank. Also, the factory spring clamps suck. Replace the clamp with a worm style clamp, and see if that fixes it. If it doesn't, then look for any other places higher than that hose where coolant could be leaking. Use the process of elimination, and you'll find it.

 

There is a line there that goes to twards the passenger side fender ans ends up in the the heater core. I was in ther this weekend and this is what I remember:
1 Upper and lower hoses
2 Overflow
3 AST
4 Turbo (back side of filler)
5 Heater core (see above)
6 Upper Intake (for AWS) twards top and at back

 

Tom, that sounds exactly like the hose I am describing.. it doesn't go to the overflow, it turns back toward the firewall. I am giving the worm drive clamp a shot tonight, I'll probably take the hose off and see a split in it and just smack myself in the head. I traced the leak to this area last night under the car with a light, it isn't coming from any place higher.. I didn't remove the filler neck either.
