Another test is to run clear tubing from ast overflow to bottom of a jug of coolant set on IC duct. Start car and idle till fans cycle on/off. See if flow of bubbles from ast ... and no apparent end to them. If so, bad news.
Ok bro I did this and no bubbles at the AST but I was getting them a little bit before the fans turned on, they it basicall looked like boiling water, but it was coming from the filler neck. When the fans came on it sucked the water down, then I saw no bubbles when I looked in and none from the AST ever.
NOW, I only get the coolant light/buzzer sometimes, I mean I have gone a week without it coming on. Then when it does I check my coolant and its all good. I was going to turn my key one time and the buzzer went off, so I looked and coolant was topped off. HELP!?!??!?!?!!?!? MY mechs, tell me its the water pump or just air that wont come out of the top of the Radiator... I can see about the radiator, and the underside of the water pump is just a little wet, could this be it?? HELP

OK, I guess I didn't look closely enough at the cap. The whole vacuum thing makes sense now, thanks!

Sticking my finger in a spark plug hole and turning the engine isn't something I would have tried! You just tryin' to see if I'm dumb enough to pinch my finger??? Seriously, I drove the **** out of the car yesertday at an autocross. It was a hot day, too. I had trouble every time I would try to start the car, but I think I've found a way around that. If I treat it like it's flooded, it'll start. Just floor it before turning the ignition on, crank a couple of seconds, let off the gas, turn the key off, and then start normally. This morning, my AST was about 75% empty, but I'm pretty sure most of that was pushed out of my overflow rather than in through the engine. Still really no smoke through the exhaust.

Going to give the old copper weld a try next....

HI, I have just started to get problems with the cooling system, one of the hoses burst, and I have replaced them all but still getting problems. Every morning I see a small puddle of coolant on the road below the radiator, after the car starts to warm up. I have taken off the filler cap above the thermostat it is always virtually empty, I know the radiator is full because when I take off the radiator pressurised cap which also leads to the overflow reservoir, Coolant spews out. I have recently replaced the non-pressurised filler cap with a pressurised one, Mainly because they are easier to get hold of and a lot cheaper. I could not see any reasons as to why a pressurised cap could not be used, Would changing this cap be the cause of my problems ???

cammon, important before any bubble test to purge air out 1st. cold start and run 1 minute, shut off allow to cool (fans help). remove ast cap, fill, replace cap, remove fill cap, fill replace cap. and repeat until levels stays up. then my bubble test with caps on. if air is problem, it will flow fromm filler neck to ast, and pulse thru the tube in synch with fans comming on and off.

your alarm with levels high mean either bad sensor, or more likely air in system that allows level to drop when pump runs.

---------------

In gen, pressure test sys warm for leaks, make sure u can suck coolant from overflow tank, new ast relief-cap every 2 years (non-relief no-spring on filler neck), new t-stat every few years.

if pressure test shows drop and no visible leak, pull plugs and spin engine, per compr test method in manual.

It definately could be the cause of your problems. I did the same thing because a pressure cap is about $5 verses the $25 for the non-pressure cap. I had to add coolant every week at least after that because it would overflow the overflow tank when I had the wrong cap on..
