I had the same problem today in fact. but i have a question. I dont get a excesive amount of smoke and i dont recall it smelling sweet. The coolant light just came on. What should I check for now? I didnt notice any leaks anywhere, so what should I check now?

yes it should, but anyways, what do you think about the whole beeep thing, im pretty pissed about it man, i mean, how the **** do i locate the leak, or whatever it is!!! i was thinking to drain the fluids, such as coolant, motor oil, that kinda stuff, then fix the leak wherever it is, and put all now fluids, what do u think about this idea??

u might just wanna check the coolent and see if its low, if its low then fill it will water to top it off, start the car, let it circulate and take it for a ride, after you let it cool down check it the next day and see if the coolant level is where u filled it at, if yes, u should be ok, if not u could have a leak, i recommend not driving the car to much!! be sure to find out what the problem is before u start getting on your ride!!!!

A 20B conversion is going to run you about another $10,000 at least after you purchase the engine/turbos, and that's not including the work to get the engine in the car (it's not a drop in replacement for the 13B, there is a lot of work to get it done). There's a reason most shops charge around $30,000 for the conversion.
IMO, get a reman for a little over $2k, get some local friends to help pull your engine and install the new one. At that time you can take care of the normal reliability mods.
If you aren't seeing any coolant leaking on the ground but the coolant is consistantly low (and getting the buzzer and smoke on start up), there is no denying it. Coolant seals. But that's nothing that hasn't been said yet in this thread.
Good luck.

I had the same thing, bought the car and the coolant seals were already toast. This was 5 years ago, and I didn't know anything about the car (let alone have an internet connection to do any research).
I was pissed, but it was my fault. I bought the car "as is". Then I had the dealer put in a reman engine and new turbos. I had no idea there were cheaper ways of going about it until about a year ago. So, there I was 5 years ago, paid $20k for the car, and then spending $10k to the dealer for a new engine and turbos (which really didn't need to be replaced).
Learn from your mistakes. It does no good to get upset as it won't change anything. You have two choices:
1. Fix the car
2. Sell the car
Take your pick...
I will tell you, I no longer make impulse car purchases. I've learned from my mistake. I hope you do too...

Well soon after the buzzer came back on....this thing is FULL of coolant.....do i need to get a new motor or what? This f***ing sucks major *** if so because i just bought the car like 2 weeks ago and have NO money..i actually owe money on this thing. Can i fix it anyway? THanks

don't race, don't need to
Drew throwing things that smell....
If you just filled the sytem, you might be ok. First, white smoke may just have been the condensation boiling off your cats. If it was kinda steam like, not pillowy and thick, then that's most likely the deal with the smoke. If pillowy and long lasting and present right at start up and wet plugs and the smoke smells VERY sweet, THEN become concerned.
Next, the question I got asked a thousand times when I posted coolant issues: did you burp the system when you filled it? The easiest way to do this is to fill slooowwwwly with the coolant pipe that is hooked to the throttle body disconnected and pointing up-wards. You will hear gurgling in this pipe as it fills. Note that you should have the AST cap off, but be filling in the thermostat housing. The level of coolant will fill the AST first, so cap it as that point. Then the coolant will just seep out the TB hose. Re-connect it, top off the system, and close the thermo housing cap. MAKE SURE your hose to the over flow is water/air tight. Start the car and let it idle and warm itself. You might have ONE low coolant light happen. Simply turn the car off. Let it cool until you can remove the AST cap, fill the AST, and check the level at the thermo housing. Top this off as well. Over the next few days, check the levels at all three points, AST, Thermo housing, and overflow.
If you hear gurgling in your engine about ten seconds after shutoff, you still have air in it.
Hope this helps. Interesting how these coolant problems seem to cluster...

Ok i just did what you (spurvo) told me to. I got quite a bit more coolant in there and let it idle for a good 10 min with no buzzer. Well when i went to take it for a drive to make sure everything was ok...well before i got it out of the driveway the buzzer came back on. Do you think i may just need to add sommore coolant? Im hoping that when it was idling and when i started driving it that the coolant was just flowing though the system and made room for a little more or so. Im going out there in a few min to see once it cools down. What would the problem be? Or is it normal? Thanks guys

If so, how long does the car smoke and does the smoke have a coolant smell?
If the car doesn't smoke, you might try to keep burbing the cooling system for a few days. Make sure your coolant caps are good (or just buy replacements, they are cheap).
Also, check the level in the filler neck (not the overflow tank) and make sure it really is low there (that's where your sensor is located).

Well when i went back outside......I opened the caps and it was a little low...so we put more in there and filled it up....well the buzzer didnt come on...i drove it down to the local church (bout 1/4 mile from my house and farther than i got last time)....no buzzer....went down the road about 2 miles and somewhat got on it....no buzzer...parked it while it was running...no more smoke or anything.....drove to pizza hut which is about 10 miles...no buzzer....let it cool down and shut it off. Went inside to talk to some friends and to show them the new 7. Popped the hood and showed them the bay and we talked a few...cut the car back on and no smoke at all...drove it home the long way...about 12 miles...no buzzer and i got on it pretty good during that time. So let me tell you im the happiest mo fo right now on the Earth. I thought i was gonna have to fork out money that i didnt have. Thanks to this entire post and everyone who helped me out....i love u guys right now .......oh yea before hand the smoke did have a sweet smell just like yall said and the buzzer came on...but after taking both caps and the hose from the TB off....and filled them up like spurvo had said everything worked fine for a good while....then the light came back on and i just added more and everything is great now....and i dont have a leak.....i let the car sit for like 20 min and nothing under it at all. Thanks again

Hey guys, Probibly not in MARK's case, however; I have One odd possibility more...
On an FD, check the lead wire coming out of the sensor just below the filler cap. It's a wire right at the top front of the motor. I was getting that blasted 'add coolant' light & beep on a fresh motor with fresh coolant toped off. Bugged the hell out of me for a few days. I discovered that wire lead was well cooked and cracked to the point that it was shorting out. I sealed it up, and no more problem.
You should have seen the river of coolant on the pavement that first night. It was going out the seam in the filler neck and onto the ground. FULL to over flowing, and still beeping. Not fun in the dark, in the middle of nowhere.
Happy Running!
