Cooland cap

Ok, don't flame me on this question, but i originally got my car with a coolant cap - the cover over the filler neck, with no spring, or i would assume a thermostat. I picked up a stant thermostat/cooland cap rated at 16lbs. My question is this - the original cap that i got, didn't have a spring or anything under the cap. The new cap has the spring, and i would assume it would pop up after 16lbs has been reached. Is the original cap the right cooland cap - without the spring ?

You want the cap like what was on there before without the spring. The one with the spring goes on the AST.

The Filler cap on the Waterpump/Thermostat housing IS NOT a pressure cap, do not use a pressure cap there, The pressure cap is on the AST. also 16 psi is too high for an fd, the fd should use an 13psi cap.

Ok.. i'll put the original cap back on the filler neck. As for the AST, there is a rating on the cap, but i don't remember seeing a spring on the AST cap. I'll check again at lunch. Oh yeah
Thanks Rated and Maxpesce for your help.
