Compression test question..

Hey all,
I had another quick question for you guys - again, I tried searching but nothing was too clear about this. I just had my motor out and my mechanic tried turning the flywheel and noticed that it spun very easily...he's now worried that I might have low compression on my motor. What I wanted to ask was, if the flywheel spins in the way that was described - very freely with little or no resistance, does that absolutely mean the compression on the motor is bad? Thanks for the help~

Not to my understanding it doesn't... if means that your flywheel will need to be replaced... is your mechanic a rotary specialist, making such an assumption?

Dennis,
WTF!! means your Flywheel needs replacing because the motor spins easy. Can I have some of that **** you are smoking.

If your motor has been sitting for a while it could have little oil inside on the seals so you will have a lower compression. Just drop some ATF or 2 cycle inside the motor and then check the compression.

compared to a piston engine rotaries are EXTREMELY easy to turn by hand.

i wouldn't be worried at all, i can go out and turn my motor just fine by using my hands on the belts and i have great compression :]

without oil pressure you wont get the same compression that it makes during combustion.

Are the belts hooked up?

Put in plugs - does it make nice consistent pops as you turn it?

You can always hook up a transmission and manually power the starter to run a true compression test.

I appreciate the replies - this mechanic have been putting me through a nightmare with all of his assumptions. I've been going to my old 240 mechanic who's had some experience with rotaries, but apparently is more used to piston engines =) I'll definitely get a true compression test tomorrow, and thanks again you guys!
