Compression Test Question

Hey guys,

so after selling my FD about 4 years ago, i'm thinking of buying another one now. its a 99 JDM auto. I got the compression tested with a normal piston engine tester. I saw a few videos that suggested removing the schrader valve from the gauge so that I get 3 equal pulses or jumps in the needle. With this method I got 3 equal jumps of 55psi.

Without taking the valve off the psi builds up to about 100.

Is this good or bad?

As far as the drive is concerned, starts up immediately, it idles alright, does not over heat(its 45c here) and pulls pretty hard for an auto. It doesn't smoke either, just a little blueish puff on startup.

Nevermind, I figured it out. Also I don't think the mechanic pressed the accelerator down, so that could be a cause for the low reading.

I was always told that the test should be done with wide open throttle. Was the engine up to operating temp too?

You won't get accurate numbers without a rotary-specific tester, but you can get some kind of idea. Engine should be warmed up, cranking rpm around 250. Hold the throttle fully open. Make sure you have a plug out of both rotor housings.
