Certainly there would be the R1s and R2s which use a black suede interior only.

Black leather was availabe, but it is rare compared to tan leather.

Black "checkered" cloth was also available..

A quick scan through my 93, 94, and 95 brochures reveal that black leather was not available with Brilliant Black. However black cloth and the suede was....

Thats a shame. Black leather and brilliant black would look striking together!

I'm almost 100% sure that I've seen one with both black and black. But just cause it didnt come doesnt mean you couldnt of ordered optional seats for it.

The Black "checkered" cloth seems to be able to withstand a lot more then the leather seats. I have yet to see one that is worn out. It also seems to keep you in yourseat a lot better then the leather ones.

well leather isn't really meant for fast cars, you always slide too much. just a luxury option because people that can buy a $40k car want leather too... suede and cloth are the better choice when traveling at high speed haha, but im sure you already knew that

Cloth wears better too. I can't tell you how many FDs I've seen with a nasty, ratted-out leather interior. Worn bolsters, seat rips. Gross.

NOT true - CLOTH is just a LOT cheaper to REPLACE so most of the time a owner with worn CLOTH will replace them sooner than replacing LEATHER. Leather just requires a little maintenence to last forever!

I have owned 3 cars w/ Leather seats, 2 with CLOTH and 3 with Vinyl, The Vinyl was/is almost indestructable, But very slippery! the leather when properly cared for (ie cleaned & conditioned on a regular basis) was/is more dureable than the cloth and actually easier to clean, the cloth holds you in place the best but tears & stains eaisest.
Try this test:
sit on each w/ a screw driver sticking out of your back pocket then drive briskly around the block and tell me which seat has the bigger hole! OR pour a Cup of HOT BLACK coffee on each an try to wipe it up before the fabric stains - Almost impossible on cloth, You have about 20 sec on well treated leather and no problem on Vinyl!

Wink

from where i live, most rx7 owners go for leather rather than cloth... i think asian likes leather somehow?!? it looks much cleaner and luxurious...even for a sport car! and of course, as long as u take care of it... Just my .02...
