When does one know to replace the clutch? I know that when It starts to slip it has to be replace but if I want to aviod getting to that point how can I find out If the clutch needs to be replaced. Currently, my pedal is soft and has too much action but the part where it gets engaged is very little. I have to be on my toe to use the clutch or else it jerks the car. Do I need to replace the clutch?
Thanks
Thanks
Why not wait until you know one is needed. I've seen clutches last 150,000 miles. If you do not like the feel because it's too soft, replace it with a stonger assembly. If it's not slipping or chattering, why go through all the expense?
You will be able to tell when it is slipping. You will have considerably less power. Get on the express way and put it in 4th gear, punch it, if your tach is rising but the speed is bearly going anywhere then it is slipping. I agree that you should wait till you know for sure because it is rather expensive to replace. You have to buy the clutch ~$450 then resurface the flywheel ~??? or get a light weight one ~$400 and then you have to do it yourself ~$0 or get someone else to install it ~$300-500. Of course it is your car.....
