Clutch Problem- have searched! any knowledgeable suggestions??

Guys im hoping for some help here

I rebuilt my engine and when I had the engine out I changed the worn OEM clutch to a Exedy sport clutch kit.

I also installed the following:
New Release bearing
New Pilot bearing
New Fork
New Stainless clutch line.

The problem is car doesn’t want to go into gear when the engine is running.
Car goes in gear with engine off.

When I start up the engine with the clutch pedal pressed and in gear the car moves

System is fully bled.
With a mate in the car pressing the clutch pedal and me checking through the inspection plate I can see the pressure plate been pulled a good 3/4" along the shaft

Also there is no slack in the pedal - ie the minute the pedal is touched the bearing starts to pull on the pressure plate. and it continues to pull until the pedal hits the floor

No vibrations though the pedal and no grinding noises - everything feels smooth.

I haven’t adjusted the clutch pedal; will adjusting it allow me to pull the pressure plate even more?

Can you put the above type of clutch plate on backwards? and would it cause these problems?

Thanks for any help guys!!

Yes, you can put the clutch disc in backwards. You have one of 2 problems:

1. The system needs more pressure. You either need to keep bleeding it or get a Power Bleeder like this one http://www.motiveproducts.com/ to finish the job.

2. The clutch disc is in backwards.

I have a pressure bleeder, and im fairly sure its fully blead. But, just to be 100% sure ill spend another while bleeding.

However looks like I'll be dropping the gearbox again

Thanks for the help Mahjik!

Try this, happend to me with my act clutch in my TII. Adjust the rod for the clutch master cylinder.

If that does not work, make sure that the slave cylinder is actually seated onto the clutch fork. Make sure the clutch fork and throwout bearing are not binding.

My son had this happen to him as well. It turned out the pilot bearing had dug into the propeller shaft and was functionally fused. So the transmission shaft was "stuck" directly to the flywheel.

Thanks PHDMDRx7, Rx7wil

A bad pilot bearing is possible, I had a little trouble mating the engine and gearbox (bad clutch alignment tool) so it could have been damaged. I will change the pilot bearing aswell...

I dont think its anything to do with the rod because there is no free play in the clutch pedal at all
Slave is seated in the fork, and throw out bearing is good

I wont get a chance to work on the car till next weekend but will update when i do
