Unhappy Clutch Install Help

Hello,
I am putting my engine and trans back together after an engine rebuild... while I was in there, I put on a lightweight flywheel and the M2 clutch/pressure plate combo. I can't seem to make the clutch release sleeve "lock" into the wedge collar... It keeps popping out.

What's the trick to this? Is it just really hard to make it work?

Thanks!!!

Brian

Mine just snapped in; it did take some force to do. I believe I was able to do it with my fingers by pulling on the release fork through the hole where the slave mounts.

Yeah I'm beginning to wonder if my snap ring is not installed correctly (perhaps it got bumped out of alignment when I was trying to line up the engine/trans).

Any other ideas? Anyone else find that their snap ring got messed up??

Thanks!!

Well I did some more checking.... Using my old release sleeve and old pressure plate, I am able to determine that there is NO problem getting the new sleeve pushed in far enough... the problem is that the snap ring or something isn't built right and it's just not WORKING.

Wasn't there some problem with some M2 pressure plates a while back?

I guess it's possible that my lame *** snap ring isn't "snappy" enough?

This pisses me off so much. Now I have to pull of the transmission again. What a huge PITA.

Just posting a follow-up to let you all know how this turned out.

Using my old pressure plate and old release collar, I carefully eyeballed how everything fit together. After doing this, I carefully lined up everything with the trans and engine still connected using a screwdriver or two stuck in through the inspection holes.

Just got it all lined up super nice... and bingo!

Next time you can be sure that I'll bend my snap ring to be extra snappy.

Regards,
Brian
