Clutch inspection?

Is it possible to view the edge of the clutch disk by removing either of the inspection plates on the transmission bellhousing? I want to see how much friction material is left compared to the specs.

Since nobody responded, I got under the car over the weekend, pulled the tranny heat shield and opened the bottom access plate on the bellhousing. It allowed a perfect view of the edge of the clutch disk. The FSM says the minimum thickness is 3mm of friction material on each side of the disk.
