Clutch fork dowel ?
Does this clutch fork dowel look right to you? Photo attached.
I am toubleshooting a clutch problem.
Symptoms:
More than normal free play at the top of the pedal
Clutch engages close to the bottom of the floor
Clutch chadders/vibrates when just starting to engage
Clutch does not seem to slip once it is fully engaged.
When pressing the clutch pedal the clutch fork does move back and forth.
I have not found any leaks or is there loss of fluid.

The dowel looks fine.
Have you done the pedal free play adjustment per the FSM? If you think you have too much play you probably do. The symptoms suggest the clutch is never fully disengaging.

The dowel doesn't really have anything to do with clutch opertation, it just keeps the pivot pin of the clutch fork from falling out.
I would study the fork around the pin very closely with a bright light. When the clutch fork breaks there is always a crack near that hole.
A broken fork could cause the problems you're having.

I'm thinking it's a bad clutch fork also, but hoping it's hydraulic. I have looked
at the movement of the fork while the pedal is being pushed in and let out
and I can't see any flexing or cracks in the fork. I will look at this again.
As far as the free play adjustment at the pedal in the footwell the rod is
adjusted to it's full length and the lock nut is tight so it has not moved.
Thanks

Sorry, my monitor shows the shadows really dark and all I saw was the hinge pin. After adjusting it a bit, I can see the roll pin protruding somewhat - and that's not normal AFAIK.
For comparison, you can see my clutch fork on http://www.davidgeesaman.com/rx7/Tra...isassembly.PDF page 11. Sorry I don't have a separate pic of it onhand.

Here's how the forks look when they break.
