Clutch Engages Top of Throw
Clutch Engages Top of Throw
Just recently my clutch pedal does engage until near the top of the throw, in reverse it seems to be not as bad (less of a travel), also gets better the more I drive. I've bled the clutch twice in the last couple of weeks. Also the pedal has stuck to the mat a couple of times. Could be something other than the clutch causing this issue..... eg: the master/slave? I'd prefer not replacing the clutch and it turns out the clutch is fine.

The car has 65,000 kilometers or 40,389 miles on the original clutch.
If the pedal has stayed down, you likely have a bad slave cylinder. If you clutch doesn't slip upon acceleration, its probably ok for now. With 40K on it, it may be nearing the end of its useful life.
The rod pushing the slave cylinder can be adjusted. Take a look at it. Its attached to the clutch pedal.

OP, If the clutch is not slipping and this is a new problem as opposed to a gradual change in pedal travel I would assume there is some sort of problem with your clutch master or slave cylinder.
You mention bleeding the slave but you do not mention what process you used or if there was any air that came out. You may need to remove the slave and "bench bleed" it.
I am assuming that you jacked up the front of the car and bled the slave? The problem with that is now the bleeder (at the rear of the slave cylinder) I now not the highest point on the slave cylinder. You may need to jack up the rear of the car higher than the front in-order to get all of the air out if you choose not to remove the slave for bleeding purposes.
Also, if there is air in the system and you did not run low on brake fluid then you will need to figure out where the air came from. Perhaps one of the lines is faulty or one of the other components is bad.
Then again it could just be the clutch is going bad or your clutch fork is cracked.
The problem start a week or so after I bleed the whole system on 4 jack stands the way I do it twice a season. I have speed-bleeders on the clutch slave & all four brakes. The second time I only jack up the front and bled the clutch as the brakes seemed fine, dumb move after I think about it. I have no slipping under acceleration. I'll try adam c's suggestion. I don't believe there's air in the system as it's pretty hard to do with speed-bleeder installed, in theory and yes I kept the reservoir near full while bleeding. I'm starting to think it a bad master or slave.
Thanks guys for your quick response.

Recent History:
Change Brake Fluid from Wildwood to AFE Blue, after the change clutch engaging at top of the throw of the pedal. Clutch pedal sticking to the floor once or twice. Brakes seem fine.
I replaced Clutch Slave with very little improvement.
Flush system again no improvement.
Took the car to a local garage to get clutch/ transmission inspected on a hoist, told/saw clutch & fork were fine! Lot of meat on the disc.
Now I've replace Clutch Master, and I still have the issue! So far the pedal has not stuck to the floor and both the removed units appeared to be good eg: no leaks.
Could this be caused by a worn pressure plate, master cylinder or flywheel, I'm baffled?
