At least on the tach the needle can be removed by pulling it straight out. However, don't pull on the black center cover as it breaks easily; grab the red portion of needle on both sides of the black cover at the same time and pull. You should also measure/record the needle's height above the face before you start.
All the above is easy. The real problem is maintaining calibration when you remove/replace the needle. If you aren't careful and/or lucky you can easily cause the readings to be off.
