Cleaning A/C compressor

So I have my engine out and sent off to be rebuilt and during the down time I'm detailing the engine bay, painting brakets, etc. The problem is I have this nasty, greasy, A/C compressor hanging in the engine bay. What is the best way to clean the exterior of the unit? I'm a little concerned about the electrical connections at the top during the cleaning and want to know what and how you guys deal with this problem and what has worked best.

Thanks

use some purple power degreaser and plug the in and outlets with plastic plugs
if the lines are off it should not afect it any, after you finish spray some wd-40 on the conections so they do not build corosion.
