Cleaned up my front running lights :)
Hi Guys,
I wasnt going to post this, but I was inspired by Jim's post about his door sill mod. My running lamps were looking a bit yellow. They have never been cleaned anything more than what washing the car does. So, I bought a container of Turtle Wax headlamp cleaner and sealant:
2-in-1 Headlight Cleaner & Sealant - Turtle Wax
Removing the two lamps was simple. Just loosen the screw, and then pull on the loosened screw to pull them out. They should come out easily, unless you have a really cheap aftermarket paint job. I took them to my work bench, and spent only about 3 minutes on each one. The results came out amazingly good. To me, they look almost new. All yellow removed. Total time to do this, about 10 minutes. I'm not sure anyone else will notice, but I didn't do it for anyone else

Turned out great!
It's good that they weren't too far gone to restore. I did the same to my stockers, but they were pretty much done.
And yes, people notice. It's the little things that keep a car from looking and feeling old.

Thanks for the kind words guys. Much appreciated
A neighbor of mine has a silver FD. Every time I drive by it, all I see any more is yellow running lights.

Turned out great. You can clean them a little more by grabbing a rag and running it down the wedge where the lens meets the gray plastic to clear all the muck out. I did this last weekend and it really makes the plastic look new. Btw it's a tight fit so pull hard.
Adam - Thank You for posting this.
I did notice and I pay very close attention to detail. It's how I am.
And like a few others have said - It's the little things we do to our RX-7s as we continue to have them, that make these cars last. And continue to look better and better.
I've wanted to clean these on my 2 FDs for quite some time now but was not exactly sure how to remove them. Your post clarified that.
I'm going to do the same on my cars and post up pictures.

An orbital buffer with a foam cutting pad and cutting compound also works great. Just be carefull while doing it. Better to have the buffer fixed stationary and touch the light to the rotating pad very lightly. Thats how I did mine.
