Question Cigarette lighter not work, yes I checked the fuse

Cigarette lighter isn't working, it randomly stopped when I had an air compressor connected to it. I checked and replaced the 15amp fuse for it but nothing was wrong with it in the first place. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I know these sounds crazy but check continuity with a multimeter across the fuse. They sometimes break but look good.

or just use the multimeter to check the 12V in the cig-lighter hole itself. If you have 12V over the bridge there, the cig-lighter is faulty. if you dont have 12V there, its before the cig-lighter hole and could be fuse, wiring, etc...

when faced with problems, allways try to divide problems in two as fast as possible. If its alot to check/fault search, draw a problem tree and see what "branches" you can ignore to get to the main problem as fast as possible.
in this case, hardware(cig-lighter) or powersupply(wire, fuse etc)

as suggested check continuity and voltage first.

issue i have seen is the wire at the back of the receptacle burns out like a fusible link before the fuse pops sometimes. the wire is only a few mm long and jumps from the spade connector to the back of the receptacle connection.

More than likely it is what Karack said. They still use fuseable links (ie a thin wire) that melts to protect the outlet. Very annoying.
