Hey, well I drive a Bone stock 92 JDM FD. Clutch is in horrible shape and is needing a replacement soon. Could some of you chime in with ones you like or dislike. How to I drive, well it's an FD so occasionally I let her go, but I do not race on the track or anything. I am thinking Stage 2 Kevlar or Ceramic. There are a couple on ebay and I found this one just tonight on sale. Part PK-12187XT on http://www.srmotorsports.com/actmazda.html Is this what I should be getting. why not just a stock clutch replacement, it will still do you good and will be about half the price. just call ray crowe at malloy mazda. if you need the number, someone else can chime in with it. i dont have it anymore since i switched phones.

if you want an upgrade from the oem clutch....i would HIGHLY sudgest either the act street/strip clutch kit or the centerforce dual friction clutch kit. they are both better than clutch feel and support larger torque applications( just incase you change your mine on modding/tracking your car )

i have the centerforce dual friction and its amazing. mine was slipping and cause of the rough shifts i needed new tranny fluid. so i did clutch/flywheel upgrade/fluids all in one shot

Alright, stock totally might be the way to go, forgot about Ray and his ways with all of us, he is a great guy. Running stock, would there even be a huge difference between stock and say a stage 2 or so, or basically running at the basic HP level they should both grab about the same? Part numbers would be great, go with a stock flywheel as well or just resurface mine if it needs?

your pedal feel shouldnt change with the clutch switchout. it should engauge a little easier since your probobly experiencing slipage when taking off.

what kind of milage are on your parts and when was the last time your diff and tranny fluids were changed?

about order numbers. once you get ray on the phone...he will hook you up. just let him know exactly what you want. make sure you also get everything you need for the clutch change out.

-throwout berring
-pilot berring w/ seal

 

All fluids were supposed to be changed before they left japan, none the less since lots is open fluids will be getting changed. People chime in with part #'s if you know them, and should I also get the alignment tool? Thanks

unless you have a shop do it. they have alignment tools that are better than the ones in clutch kits

 

You should try te get hold of a quality clutch such as EXEDY stage1 or 2 range wich will be a little bit better than OEM... But ACT is pretty good as well for standard clutches.

 

I have just installed an Exedy Stage 1.It cost $369 for the kit,it works like a charm with the ACT Prolite flywheel,with slightly heavier peddle feel.Still a very driveable package.

 

I think my 6 puck sprung with pro lite flywheel is just like the centerforce dual friction I had before my motor/turbo swap. Pedal pressure is great, the clutch gripped soon as I let out the pedal, so I adjusted the shaft that goes into the master cylinder and now with 3k miles it feels just like any other clutch to me, I am very pleased with ACT!

I've got an ACT streetlite flywheel (12.3 lbs) and Centerforce dual friction clutch. It does not buckle in the lower RPMs as the stock flywheel (23 lbs).

Clutch feel is similar to stock and not as "heavy" as the stage 2 ones.

 

Technically, the stock clutch is a Daikin. Daikin makes a lot of OEM clutches, but they also manufacture some higher end ones. Exedy happens to sell a few of them under their name.

In my case, running all stock I see no need considering it is recommended for track use, I would be getting the "thin" one, used for 2000 miles. With my understand the stock clutch should last longer and well, grip fine since I am stock. Wanting to order tomorrow or Monday so get back to me guys

For your use, I would recommend the ACT Street/Strip or Exedy Stage 1 clutches.

 

I just put an exedy heavy duty clutch (stage 1) in my FD, and to be honest, it is lighter then my stock clutch! Its much easier to drive now.

 

This is one of those where no one can make up your mind for you. . .I have ACT S/S clutch and RB light(er) flywheel (about 11-12 lbs) and very happy. One thing with a lighter flywheel that I haven't seen on here (but I haven't read everything) is it makes matching RPM's, particularly on downshifts, feel completely natural. . .makes me feel like a better driver than i probably am

 

I'm also in desperate need for a clutch. I have a 93 RX7 with a Racing Beat clutch that I was happy with, but now I'm thinking of the CF Dual Friction or DFX.

The car is pretty much stock (except for racing beat cat-back exhaust, and Fluidyne rad), but I do track it (Solo 1) about 4-6 time a summer.

After reading this post, it seems that people also like ACT and Exedy. I'm sure there all good, so it'll come down to price.

Do people have suggestions on dealers for with good prices?

The stock clutch will be the best for your needs.

 

But is totally different than a Exedy stage 1 for a fd. The stage one is almost identical to a ACT street/strip in feel and tq ratings.

I would go with whatever you can get cheaper between a Exedy Stage 1 and an ACT street/strip. Both provide more pressure plate strength so if you decide to upgrade in the future it will hold the power, and both are extremely comfortable to drive and not hard on the foot or annoying to drive like a puck clutch.

 

I really should read all the posts before I chime in, you and I are usually on the same page with recommendations.

I have an ACT XT pressure plate with SS street disc. One of my favorite clutches. Great feel, not too heavy and grips VERY well. Fine in my 400whp car.

I am selling it used since I am going LS1. It only has about 6-7000 miles on it. PM me if you are interested. I could included the revised clutch fork (also nearly new) with the purchase.

 

Just one caution with the stock clutch. I, like you, have a pretty much stock car that's not tracked. 3 or 4 years ago I decided to replace my clutch. Since I got
92K miles out of the oem I decided to go with stock again. Ordered it from a place called Mazdaformance (dealer in Texas) that discounted oem parts. What I got from them was a part from Mazda's "value" line - this should have been a red flag. Once installed I quickly learned that this is not the same clutch that came on the car. Very weak engagement, slips and shudders easily, not good.

Of course, now I buy all my parts from Ray and I assume he's got access to the "real" stock clutch, but I'd check. If the box says "value line" I'd stay away.
