according to the vacuum diagram the arrow on the check valve should go a certain direction .. what would happen if someone were to put the check valve in the wrong direction?

 

A reversed check valve won't necessarily blow something up, but it will cause that system not to work well. The main function of the check valves is to keep either vacuum or boost in the storage tanks - with it reversed, the tanks won't hold what they're supposed to hold, and you'll get funky boost issues. If it's a check valve for the double throttle control, it will either not work or stick closed, making the car way slow.

well recently i pulled off my uim and checked all my vacuum hoses .. and i noticed that the one check valve that connects to one of the hoses toward the front of the uim near the tb was reversed

only person that worked on it before me was the mazda dealership (after my little engine fire) .. i also noticed alot of the hoses that they replaced were not the right size so a lot of the hoses were loose or just came off the nipples they were connected to very easily ..

 

Time to replace the ill-fitting lines with silicone. The stock rubber lines get VERY hard over time and just slip right off.

Might also think about a set of my check valves .

haha .. yeah im thinking bout doing the silicone soon .. but as for the check valves .. they are so expensive .. any recommendations where i can get a good deal?

i just bought one from malloy mazda .. cost bout 20 bucks

Hey Dale, got any good tricks for thickening the nipples on your check valves? The 3.5mm Viton hose doesn't grab them good.

Wow - isn't that kind of a personal question for this board ?

Sorry - I just could resist Dave. BTW - I now have the colored vacuum hose diagram printed out and Medusa the solenoid rack is sitting on the floor of my garage.... very intimidating - and I already broke one solenoid tip off- just getting the LIM and UIM off (the engine is out of the car) My plan was to ditch the EGR valve and solenoid - so I'm hoping I can swap the EGR solenoid over to the one I broke - it's the most forward one I believe - are all solenoids created equal?

I had good success thickening Dales check valves. I roughened up the inlet and outlet surfaces and used JB weld on them. I turned them as they dried so there wasn't much of a bulge caused by gravity. Do this before installing them. Looks durable and the car runs great.

I've just always used 3.5mm silicone - fits OK, but fits REALLY well with zip ties. Problem is the next nipple size up is just too big - there's no happy medium.

AFAIK, all of the check valve's arrows point back to the UIM, thats how i remember it
