Question CHECK TRANSMISSION Light!! What should i do?

94 fd3s Automatic. I will be driving for about 4 miles then it the check transmission light comes on. I was thinking about changing the fluid today even before this light came on. there still is fluid in it now. Just wanna try to fix it myself. There are no tranny shops around.
thanks
Frank

check the oil level

might want to check the owner's manual or FSM for what the light might mean. FSM can be downloaded from the stickied FAQ thread

get this to a trans shop asap! these transmissions can't take abuse. if the light is on you have a problem. tow it to a shop before you do more damage

Pull the codes for the tranny and see what it says. Definitely don't ignore this or you will be toast, along with your transmission.

The tranny codes, and the procedure to get them (jumper TAT & GND), begin on page K214 of the FSM (the "Self-diagnosis" entry in section K).

You can find the entire FSM here:

wReX-Racing.com
It's a single pdf file that's been zipped up, but it's still a pretty big d/l.

It's similar to getting ECU codes, except jumper TAT to GND and the "HOLD indicator" will blink the code number. (I've never tried it, though -- don't have an auto.)
