check my parts/plans before build(with pics,grandpa's and single turbo's!!!)
As i posted a few weeks ago, i lost my rear rotor from a boost spike..... that i was aware of...*cough*(read, im retarded, lol) anyway......
Ive got the engine out and stripped down to the shortblock... minus the front cover and flywheel. Cant seem to find anyone local with a 54mm.... in fact, people chuckle, and make some comment about working on a backhoe?? lol. rotary resurrection will be doing my rebuild, so im going to see if he can assist me when i take him the engine.
This is my first time pulling the engine from anything! I have been playing with this car for a few years now, and ive learned A LOT along the way. I had previously been down to the rats nest(who hasnt?) as well as all the normal things, like DP, full exhaust, AC/PS removal, radiator, PFC, battery relocation, etc etc.
but never anything like pulling the whole engine! It actually wasnt as bad as i thought it might be..... but we'll see how i feel when its time to put it back together. lol. I put almost EVERY bolt i took out in a ziplock bag and labeled it, so hopefully that will really help me get it back together. Im a lineman for the phone company, and we have these niffty multi-colored zipties to mark cable with. I meant to tag each side of every connection and hose with a matched ziptie, but in my excitement of starting the tear down... i forgot them I have a feeling this will be my biggest mistake thus far, lol.
Before i started taking it apart.
I took off way more than whats necessary to pull the engine. Partly because i dont have an engine stand, but mostly because i never stopped to think about getting it out and THEN taking it apart, lol. Oh well, it just made it a lot lighter for the hoist, lol.
almost stripped completely down by the time i had borrowed a hoist.
3 generations in this one! my grandfather is 84 and uses facebook and his iphone. 1 of the smartest people ive ever met
getting the transmission separated took longer than i expected. finally found a post from Howard Coleman years ago, had a link to a video by wargasm. FINALLY! understanding how something works makes all the difference huh?
My grandpa's busy garage, lol
Now for the parts list/plans.
Aspec 500r. dont mind the $20, i had sent this picture to some friends who dont know a turbo from a banana, tried to give some size reference, haha
got a similar mileage rear housing to match with what im hoping, will be my still good front housing. <20k miles
my turbocharged bedroom floor!
so ive got the beginnings. check my list of things to acquire, see if im missing anything obvious.
ID 2200 injectors and all assorted rails,FPR's
I have a supra pump, ... may get the new aeromotive unit
HKS twin power
Ive got a brand new Exedy single carbon clutch i bought a few years ago, but now that im hoping for 500hp, im thinking i may need something else. What should i get??
AI water injection. Havent decided on a brand/kit. but i think ill just run water or local washer fluid.
Im getting ALS seals from rotary resurrection during the build.
3 bar map sensor
stiff motor mounts from IRperformance (ordered)
oil pan brace
rotary extreme extrude honed upper and lower IM. teflon coasted inside, ceramic outside, with their matching over bored TB. (ordered)
turbo blanket/ heat wrap?
im going to ditch the OMP and premix
i already had pretty much all the normal bolt-ons before this started, so i should be set for ECU, exhaust, IC. oh and a blitz SBC, i guess that will work for a single right?
Something ive never understood. Do you have to have a wideband and a gauge all the time? or is that something you can use while having it tuned and not use everyday? I really dont like stuff in the interior.
thats it for now. Whats jumping out at you guys? what else should i be doing while the engine is out?

yeah, i realized that later. but i dont have an engine stand, or work bench in that garage, so it wouldve been on the floor, which wouldve probably been worse, lol

I would also love to hear the answer to this question. I've never understood the "10 gauge" look. There is no way you can follow all of those gauges. I used to have a wideband gauge in the cabin and found it almost impossible to watch the wideband, boost, tach, speed, and radar!
