Not sure this is the cheapest but it was too good to pass up on. Picked it up a couple of weeks ago.
93 R1 with 95K. Unmodified and all original paint. Interior is in pretty good shape with a bit of fading on the seats. Runs and drive but will need a rebuild and respray. Overall very happy!
Paid 12K.

My FD was $0, although this is a cheat since it was never actually for sale. My parents didn’t drive it anymore and wanted to make sure it wouldn’t waste away and was well cared for, so they gifted it to me on the condition that I wouldn’t sell or modify it. It’s been in the family since new, and I intend to keep it that way. It’s still in the stock configuration apart from reliability mods.
I have an immense sentimental attachment to my car and feel incredibly lucky to have the chance to be its caretaker for as long as I can, and I’m enjoying every moment of it.
I picked up my first FD, a 1998 Type RS in Chaste White for $9kNZD. Owner could never get it running right after a rebuild... Turned out the primary and secondary injector plugs ont he front rotor were swapped, so it would massively over fuel at idle, foul the plugs, and then not start.
Put around 30,000 trouble free k's on it, then the turbo seals let go. Built another set of turbos for it, but sold it before finishing the job alas. Got $20kNZD for it.
My friend cut up 3 E30 M3 shells in an afternoon, they were taking up too much space behind his shop. Said at the time he was upset he spent so much on sawzall blades
I picked up my first FD for $5k. It was running and driving with a 5 speed. It had 70k miles on it and was mostly in really good shape. This was 2005 or so?
I bought mine(95 FD) in March(2020) for $19k with a slipping clutch, and bad Brake Master cylinder, ugly wheels, and shot suspension. Fixed everything, and I’m overall happy with my FD, and continuing to mod her, and make her better. The pictures will be of before when I bought her, and how she sits currently
Not the cheapest, but definitely a good deal in todays market. Found it here on the forum and ended up working a deal at $16.5 in 2016. Got lucky to snag this one before they started to really appreciate...
When I bought it...
99% stock
Fresh rebuild
55k miles

RX-8 have taken a huge jump recently in my area (Atlantic Canada). Six months ago you could pick up a running/ driving one for $2500-$3500. Now people are asking $8000-$10,000 for the same ones. I saw three or four R3 listed for around $10k in the fall. Now, the cheapest on around here is $14k (158,000km) with several listed above $20k.
I guess it is easy target, but if the guy don't know better and try to unscrew a lighted **** he'll damage the wire. I better keep a close watch on my lighted 5-spd **** lol
I like the look of it My alternative will be get a good condition regular 5-spd RX-8 ****.
Not sure how I feel about the Miata **** look, they are bit too short. I have a MSM ****, and comparing to the Spirit R **** it is maybe 1/2" shorter. The FD shifter is kind of tall, so a small **** will look kinda weird I think.
